Photo of Camtasia Studio 8 SoftwareI just finished watching an episode of The Forge, talking about Camtasia Studio 8 just released June 19th!  You can watch it here! and then complete the survey for a chance to win a FREE Camtasia Studio 8 program!

Another great place to get a complete overview is right here!  Plenty of options.  Or you can just review my quick summary below and take it from there!

I’ve already downloaded my update and can’t wait to get into it!  I wanted to share a quick summary of some of the changes in Camtasia Studio 8  – in case you don’t have time to watch the video now.

  • Rebuilt entire engine – whole new foundation
  • Wonderful animation
  • Layer objects on the canvas
  • Animate in the background
  • Multiple videos playing on screen at the same time
  • Whole new set of themes – create content without having to design it yourself, making it easier and faster for content creators to develop
  • More sophisticated and professional look
  • Brand new codec TSC2 – blazing fast
  • Increased the default frame rate to 30; records super fast and smooth at 30 frames per second
  • Smaller file sizes

Editor:  Brand new render engine – much easier to use! You can also edit multiple videos on screen at the same time and the program is much more responsive as you work with it compared to previous versions.

New TechSmart player for Camtasia Studio 8:

  • Viewer can interact with the controls
  • Don’t have to worry about which devices are playing and working
  • Improved ability to get your content out to the audience
  • Automatically detects the device the viewer is accessing the video from (iPad App available free at the iPhone store)
  • Works on nearly any device – the interactivity just works!
  • SmartPlayer is supported at Screencast.com and you can also host videos yourself with SmartPlayer

Rebuilt engine:  Engineering improvements leveraged the CPU and multi-threading (takes advantage of multiple cores), improved recorder.  Camtasia Studio 8 performance is going to scale with your hardware. (Note:  Now this is really cool because when you upgrade your system, it will be like upgrading Camtasia Studio 8  at the same time!  The faster your machine gets, the faster Camtasia Studio 8 gets!)

Quizzing feature:  Revamped how they do it and how they report on it.  There was a lot of issues with the previous quizzing feature.  Now reports come directly from Techsmith, completing the loop and getting information back to the survey creator.

Canvas editing – grab media – move it around, snap-to guide – super fast – snapping is a huge time saver.  Clip speed enhanced!  You can speed it up or slow it down – all on the timeline.

Grouping:   Take clips or media and groups them on the timeline, add a key frame to the group and save it back to the library for future use.
